TRAINING ON LIFE RELATED SAVING AND SURVIVAL SKILLS, FIRST AID AND RISK REDUCTION DISASTER PROGRAMS
The activities were conducted in three (3) other sites specifically in the town of Agno, Pangasinan at barangays Boboy and Baruan along with the town of Dasol, Pangasinan in Barangay Petal. It was participated in by selected barangay officials, fishermen and women whose husbands are fishermen. The main purpose of the activity is to enrich the first aid knowledge and capabilities of those rural folks living near the coastal areas because based from the result of the research conducted by Bernabe and Gonzales (2016) implemented by WorldFish funded by DA-BAR, it was recommended that:
- Households of the barangay and other stakeholders should be informed on the significant events and affected resources brought about by climate change hazards though an issuance, distribution and presentation of the study’s result to increase their knowledge and competence to such.
- Appropriate household, community, and planned adaptation strategy/ies in addressing hazards in every barangay should be discussed and submitted to government officials by the community people with the help of the regional researchers for implementation.
- Men’s Hands-On-Minds-On (HOMO) activities should be further enriched by providing seminarworkshop/training on life-saving skills, first aid and risk-reduction disaster programs to be duly coordinated/fa cilitated by the appropriate agencies.
- Females should be encouraged to become equally proactive, reactive and share in decision making on adaptation choices on hazards, therefore; relevant and appropriate trainings and seminar-workshops can be conducted.
- Study processes and outputs are highly recommended to be used for educational purposes and other sub-studies can be conducted out of the study.
Hence, such utilization of research result was implemented to lessen the risk experienced by the people living in coastal areas.
